On thursday my friend (whom I shall call Dwarf, recalling her small size) took me to see the place she loves most in this world: the horse stables. And yes, my friend is obsessed with horses. She absolutely loves them. I don't love horses. Im actually afraid of them. They're big and mean and kick you if you don't please them. It's scary. Anyhow, Dwarf took me to the riding school. Her uncle took us there. It smelled like horse poo. The ground was soaking after the rain, muddy and all over printed with footprints. In other words, my beautiful, broken black indoorshoes were dying. In only 5 minutes they were full of mud, water and horse
First thing first. Dwarf showed me the stables and every horse. She showed me where the horses are washed, where they sleep, where are the saddles etc. Finally, she named every horse and took me to see three of them close. The first was Heidi, the female horse born in 1993. She was pretty nice, until she tried to bite me. Yieks!
The next one was a pretty old (though younger than Heidi) pony Fidzi. I can't remember was Fidzi male or female. I'll call Fidzi a male now. So, Dwarf took me to see Fidzi. He's this brown pony big enough to kick me 3 feet away. Dwarf opened the stable and told me to touch him. What?! Is she gone mad? Im scared of horses and she makes me touch one? No way. Though, I had no choise, since she pulled me into the stable. The first thing I noticed was that I'd stepped in pony poo. Next thing I noticed was that Fidzi was staring at me. I kinda jumped outta the stable..
The last four-legged creature I was introduced to was Kerttu (Grettle in english, I guess..), her "own" pony. She took care of her, but didn't own the pony. Kerttu is a big, white pony. Just when I was about to touch her, Dwarf said: "She sometimes bites people or threatens them." Thanks for telling me! I jumped away, of course. Then Dwarf tried to convince me, that Kerttu wouldn't bite me, but I didn't believe her anymore. So, we left Kerttu alone and went on..
Next Dwarf was told which of those creepy creatures she would ride on the lesson. She got Fidzi. Dwarf said it was going to be easy, 'cause Fidzi is a lazy one and won't try to 'take over', so to say. Dwarf took me to make Fidzi ready for the lesson. We brushed him (yes, I brushed a pony), cleaned his hooves (Dwarf did), put on his saddle (I had to hold him still because every pony and horse hates when the saddle is put on), put on the bridle (checked that from a dictionary) and brushed him some more. Finally he was ready for the lesson. We took him to the riding ring, as well as the other riders took their ponies and horses. The four-legged-grass-eaters were put to stand still in the middle of the ring (not next to each other, obviously) for the riders to get into the saddles. I kept Fidzi still untill Dwarf had got on to the ponies back. After they were ready I went outside the ring to sit down and watch.
After an hour, when I was freezing, the lesson finally ended. Dwarf left Fidzi to the next lesson kids to handle and we left the riding ring. I thought we could finally go home.. I was wrong. Dwarf took we to wash Kerttu's brushes, brush her warp, clean her feading bowl.. And finally, when I though we could leave - no way, we had to make Heidi ready for a lesson. Oh gosh.. So, we went to get that old grumpy horse to make her ready. We took her to the washing place and put her on 2 halters and started brushing her. Dwarf even made me brush her feet! Come on! She might kick me! Somehow the old horse stood still.. until it was time to put the saddle on.
Heidi shook her head, put back her ears, tried to bite me and the halters, stomped her feet, neighed and scared the sh*t out of me. When the saddle was put on, Heidi was totally calm. Creepy..
After my looong day at the stables, I finally got to go home, smelling like horse poo. Yey.
Tip of the day: The safest place near a horse is by it's side. The horse can't kick you, either bite you. It can crash you into a wall or run away, but that's your problem then..
